What the heck is SEO?

So you are thinking about creating a website and this enigmatic acronym starts popping up… SEO What is is and why is it important to me as a business owner creating a website? SEO or Search Engine Optimization plays a huge role in allowing people to find your website. Like the name states this is optimization, which means there are rules and best practices to adhere to. If you do the basic SEO work, it will allow your website to appear in google searches. Easy right?

Well… Not so much. Unless you’re the only business trying to appear for your specific market, chances are that one of your competitors is also trying be found as well. The more optimized your website is, the higher the chance that your site will show up BEFORE your competitors in the search results!

As you can see this is a huge advantage when trying to grow your website organically from search results. You want to show up as close to the top of the results as possible so that people click your website before anyone else.

If you have ever done a quick google search of something like “best coffee close to me” you have seen multiple coffee shops in the results each with their own reviews, photos and a quick contact button. Chances are, you pick the first one with the most 5 star reviews. This is SEO at work.
